Dog Grooming by Coat Type

(We specialize in dog grooming, but we also welcome (well-behaved) cats!)

Generally, we always tailor our tools, techniques, and cosmetics to the breed, coat type, and current condition, ensuring they are all of high quality, nourishing both the coat and skin. This results in not only a shiny, soft coat (appropriately so for coarse coats) but also a much more resilient coat against environmental impacts, which is especially important for outdoor dogs. Often, their skin is dry, itchy, and covered with dead hair, trapping bacteria, which prevents the skin from "breathing" properly. Additionally, the coat is more resilient to environmental effects when it is treated according to its condition and needs. For long coats, proper care significantly reduces matting.

If your dog is generally well-behaved but "afraid of water, noises, etc.," they can be gently and patiently acclimated to the grooming process! 😊 Table of Contents for Detailed Descriptions:

  1. Short, smooth coat

  2. Medium, long coat ("combing required")

  3. Clipping coat

  4. Coarse, wiry coat

  5. Mixed coat

  6. Double coat

  7. Matted coat

  8. Mixed breeds and cat grooming

If you are unsure about your dog's category, you can ask for advice or send a picture of your dog at the bottom of the page! (or via Facebook, Instagram message: @zafkokutyakozmetika) It's much easier to give advice based on a picture than without seeing the dog! ☻

  1. Short, smooth coat

Typical breeds: Labrador Retriever, Bulldogs, Shorthaired Hungarian Vizsla, Cane Corso, Staffordshire Terrier, Dalmatian, Shorthaired Dachshund, Greyhounds, Boston Terrier, Shar Pei, Pug, Basset Hound, Beagle, Doberman, Transylvanian Hound, Hungarian Greyhound, Great Dane, Smooth Fox Terrier, etc.

  • Nail trimming adjusted to the paw (if not naturally worn down)
  • Ear cleaning, eye/wrinkle cleaning (for breeds that need it), paw care
  • Removing the layer of dead hair beforehand
  • Grooming bath with individually tailored, high-quality cosmetics, including massage
  • Drying and blowing out dead hair
  • Removing remaining dead hair with the appropriate technique (regular grooming can nearly eliminate intense shedding)
  • Using finishing products to seal hair strands, providing post-care that makes the coat much more resistant to dirt and environmental impacts, while also making it shiny and well-groomed

The result: healthy, hydrated skin, shiny, silky, fragrant coat ♥

  1. Medium, long coat ("combing required")

Typical breeds: Bichon Havanese, Maltese, Golden Retriever, Border Collie, Aussie, Yorkshire Terrier, Shih Tzu, Pekingese, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Afghan Hound, Kuvasz, Bernese Mountain Dog, German Shepherd, Newfoundland, Collie, etc.

  • Nail trimming adjusted to the paw (if not naturally worn down), especially for small breeds, where overgrown nails often cause paw deformities
  • Ear, eye, paw cleaning and care, ear plucking if necessary

1. Shorter, non-standard cut (often requested for Yorkies, Bichons, etc.):

  • Preliminary clipping, hygiene area trimming, condition assessment
  • Grooming bath with individually tailored, high-quality cosmetics, including massage
  • Drying and detangling (even for short cuts)
  • Clipping with clippers and/or scissors according to the owner's request, breed standard, and the dog's attributes
  • Using finishing products to seal hair strands, providing post-care that makes the coat much more resistant to dirt and environmental impacts

2. For long (standard) cuts:

  • Entire coat detangling, grooming, and adjustment according to breed standards

This includes breeds that require adjustments like Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, etc. We do not clip them; instead, after grooming, drying, and removing dead hair, we adjust the coat according to breed standards (a few cm adjustments make a big difference in the dog's appearance)

The result: healthy, hydrated skin, shiny, easier to manage silky, fragrant coat, which remains well-groomed for weeks due to thorough scissoring! ♥

  • Using finishing products to seal hair strands, providing post-care that makes the coat much more resistant to dirt and environmental impacts, helping to maintain and shape the cords
